Asking for Father, Male, 55 years old, Karachi
My father's mitral valve is leaky and doctor suggest us for open heart surgery to replace the valve. But we are not ready for the surgery because it is very risky so without Operation what will be the consequences?
Kindly send his echo report
Share ur reports .heart issues can be treated without surgery
If he is symptomatic and not medically managed then he definitely needs valve replacement and I am sure you people are consulting cardiac surgeon. It will helpful if his history and workup done till now is shared.
Please share his all reports
Without surgery prognosis depends upon patient's symptoms, degree of valve leakage, function of cardiac chambers and overall health of patient. in severe valve leakage, valve replacement is option in most cases. in small no of cases, leakage can be managed by minimal invasive procedure called mitral clip or TEER. This is a new technique, so overall success is unknown in Pakistan.
If patient is a candidate for valve replacement, it's success rate is very high
Continue medical treatment and get a good echo done after every 3 months and share current echo report plus current drugs that he is taking
