In my opinion you should consult the surgeon who operated upon because it's he who will determine if the tissues under the skin are alright. Sometimes adhesions form in the muscles or tendons causing pain. If adhesions are there, they must be respected. Pain killers are not the answer because these meds have their side effects.
On second thought, perhaps physiotherapy of the foot might help considerably.
