Asking For Self, Male, 26 Years old, rhode island
I have had this issue for 3-4 years. It is getting worse after a long time of not being so bad. I break out intensely large bumps/ cuts every so often and I suspect it has to do with shaving. It typically gets bad a few days after shaving. I have been to two dermatologists. The first was identified as lacking credentials by my primary dr. And was viewed as a OTC/ dermatology product sales rep. He wouldn't even inspect me for a full 2 minutes. My next dermatologist prescribed me tretanoin followed by another cream, but this isn't exactly doing the trick either. Sometimes it makes it so much worse. Based on the images attached; what inferences do you get? What do you suspect my skin issue to be? I believe it is foliculitus. Do you think I should get a skin biopsy? Both dermatologists did not do or recommend one.
Yes, breakouts after shaving are usually due to folliculitis. You should always shave in the direction of hair growth and avoid shaving against it.
Make sure to clean the blade with an antiseptic every time before using it, or use a disposable razor. For now, stop shaving for the next 2–3 weeks.
In the meantime, use a benzoyl peroxide face wash and apply Benclin gel twice daily.
