Talk to Ent Specialist on Ent And Blood Reports

person-avatar

Asking for Other, Female, 6 years old, uae

Took my daughter to ent. Doc removed wax from ear and said she has red eardrum which could because of infection and fluid. I requested for a blood test since i have hogkin lymphoma stage 4and my husband is a thalassemia caerier minor (living a completly normal life, Alhumdulilah). Now seeing this esr high and thromocytosis im a bit worried. I will get it checked though but i want to know what do the docs (peds, ent or hematologist) in the group have to say about this. Reason for going to ent was she listens a little higher than normal and keeps on clearing her throat because of tonsillitis

For thrombocytosis please consult hematologist immediately
Ear:She probably has acute otits media- middle ear infection causing red ear drum and fluid behind the ear drum in middle ear.If the ear drum is still red then she would need oral antibiotics. She also need Xynosine paediatric nose drops to be put in each nostril 3 times a day for two weeks in sitting position .Mostly acute middle ear infection settle down with the conservative treatment. However if her hearing does not improve in 4 weeks and she still has fluid in middle ear commonly known as Glue ear then you should take her to good ENT consultant
Thanks

About thrombocytosis u better consult a haematologist , ESR is not that high though. Her try to clear the throat indicates post-nasal drip, which may be due to allergy instead of tonsillitis n the same would be causining Eustachian tube dusfunction and the signs n symtoms in the ear u described. It is not otitis media anyway, which would be causing severe pain. Need more detailed history about allergy to dust etc n ear / throat examination. Prof. Dr Riaz Ch

ESR is mildly elevated. But still a pediatrician/hematologist may help to rule out other pathologies
