Acidity, Reflux

I am taking omperazole for past 3 years for acidity and reflux. I did endoscopy 3 years ago in which there was mild symptoms of GERD were found. After two years of suffering I got some relief and since then taking omperazole 20mg. I’m type A personality and have used in the past SSRIs and now a days using 1.5 mg lexotanil at night. Acidity and reflux remains a worry for me off and on with indigestion, especially when I stop omperazole. I want to know how can I taper off to get rid of these medications, and to avoid acidity and reflux.

hi
what is your worry about ongoing use of omeprazole ?
certainly there are lot of life style modifications you can adopt if you are not keen to continue with pip.needless to say every medication comes with their side effects .taking lexotanil on daily basis is probably more harmful than omeprazole.
measures to take
1/ you can loose wt if over wt as pointed above
2/ small multiple rather than big meals
3/if smoker stop smoking
4/ stop alcohol if you drink
5/ prop up at night use 2 pillows
you can use gaviscon in place of pip
acid reflux can some time be challenging to treat there are lot of novel therapies tried for severe reflux but i don't think its appropriate to mention them here .
previously anti sickness like metoclopramide was in use no more now as no evidence of its impact on quality of life.

Dr Kashif,
Thnx for your response.
Even with lexotanil use I still have sleep issues. Should I consult a psychiatrist or a gastroenterologist? Or internal medicine?

Major issues are: sleep prob, reflux and indigestion.
