Talk to Gastroenterologist on Difficulty Stopping Ppi

person-avatar

Asking For Self, Male 25, Hyderabad

Dear Doctors,

I have been using proton pump inhibitors (Omeprazole and Esomeprazole) for the past 5 to 6 years due to chronic acid reflux and stomach burning. Now, I've become dependent on them-I must take a dose every 3 to 4 days, otherwise I experience intense burning and acidity. I've noticed that food does not seem to affect the condition-whether I eat light or heavy, acidic or bland, the burning persists without PPIs. I'm aware of the risks of long-term use and would like to stop or at least reduce my dependence, but every attempt brings back severe symptoms. What is the safest and most effective way to taper off PPIs and manage this rebound acidity?
