Talk to General Physician on Rabies Vaccine

person-avatar

Asking for Self, Male, 26 years old, Lahore

I had 3 shots of rabies vaccine about 11 months ago when I was exposed to a suspected rabid cat.

Now I have been exposed again to a cat which purportedly received vaccine for rabies one year ago. Cat scratched my fingers. Scratch is 1 inch long and it bled after the exposure.

Should I take booster shots of rabies vaccine to be on safe side?

Please guide. I am a bit worried.

I had received 3 shots on day 0, 3, and 7 from a government hospital and as far as I remember, vaccine name was Rabipur.

3 days ago, cat had these symptoms: loss of thirst and appetite, diarrhea (fecal matter on anus and tail), vomiting, cough, lethargy/weakness.

Now cat's health seems better than before. She drank water/milk yesterday (though in small quantity). She also drank water today morning. But loss of appetite and dehydration are still present, and she is trying to avoid people.

Please guide. I am really worried.

Should I receive 2 booster shots of vaccine for my own safety?

Sir I read that WHO recommends 2 booster shots of ARV if a person has been exposed to virus again, and he has had full course of ARV in the past (which I have).

Sir would it not be safe to get 2 more shots of ARV as recommended by WHO irrespective of if the cat has rabies or not? I can't find her and it's difficult for me to observe her.

I got it checked yesterday. He just gave an injection to cat for cough. I told the vet about all symptoms of the cat.
I am just worried about myself if I should receive 2 more shots of ARV again if it's a possible exposure as recommended by WHO?

Would it not be safe to get 2 more shots of ARV irrespective of if the cat has rabies or not to be on the safe side and as a precautionary measure?

just relax, you are an educated person and it's clear from your writing but according to my experience you are suffering from obsession so try to treat it by visiting a senior psychiatrist. No need any rabies vaccine

rabies doesn't transmit by scratch it transmits by bite and by the way you don't need rabies vaccine

Alright sir. Thanks.
Ever since my childhood, when I saw a case of young boy suffering from rabies in my neighborhood, I am really afraid of it. Perhaps this is the reason I am being extra cautious. Thanks for your suggestion, by the way sir.

I came in an indirect contact with a rabid animal around 11 months ago. So I had received 3 shots of ARV from a government hospital on day 0, 3, and 7.
