get your father examined by surgeon. to confirm if he has just stones or inflammation of gallbladder as well.if this is just stone biliary colic then you can discuss dissolution therapy or ESWL both have limited results. if the gall bladder is inflamed I am Afraid you have no other choice but surgery. but this needs to be confirmed by surgeon first
