My cousin has been experiencing a growing painful swelling in her armpit for about a month. A recent ultrasound revealed a right axillary abscess. A few enlarged lymph nodes were also seen in the right axilla with the measuring 6mm. However no abnormal vascularity is seen in ultrasound. The swelling is 2.7cm deep to skins surface. Doctor advised her for surgery. We are concerned about increasing pain and swelling. Could you please explain what are the recommend treatment plan or surgery is the last option ? Are there any specific concerns or complications we should be aware of ?

she will require surgery if no history of tb. don't waste time abscess (have a tendency to spread a path of least resistance) it can spread inwards or worst can change to necrotising fascitis. So surgery send pus sample for culture and start relevant antibiotics

Ultrasound guided aspiration. Pus CS test. Antibiotic according to Cs report
Patient need incision and drainage. Visit nearby surgeon
first u took an antibiotic cover and painkillers for the last 5 days

If the swelling not improved then the definite option will surgery
if swelling alreadt bursted then send a swab culture and give antibiotics according to results. If no better to go for incission drainage and send pus for c/s and take lymph nodes biopsy.
