Talk to Gynecologist on Menstrual Bleeding

person-avatar

Asking for Self, Female, 33 years old, Karachi

I am 33 years old and currently 7 months postpartum and breastfeeding.

Since delivery, my periods have been very irregular. During the previous 7 months, I usually had very light bleeding/spotting that continued for around 10 days. My bleeding pattern was not consistent, and I sometimes had bleeding approximately every 15 days. But it was not heavy. This month, my bleeding is much heavier than usual. It started yesterday and has continued since then. I have been soaking a sanitary pad approximately every 2 hours, and the flow has remained heavy.

The blood is dark red in colour.

I would like to know whether this heavy bleeding could be due to hormonal changes after childbirth/breastfeeding or another cause. Should I consult a doctor now, or should I wait until my period ends?
