Talk to Gynecologist on Spotting Or Periods

Started spotting on the periods date.but it was only spotting not bleeding like in periods and it is continuing on and off. Sometimes it feels like spotting has stopped and than again it just come out as spotting. Will it be considered periods or not ? confused
