What is the history of this patient? From the CT scan report it looks like he has had a stroke. Stroke is caused by blockage of an artery supplying blood to a part of the brain. Just like heart attack is caused by blockage or a coronary artery. The blockage causes part of the brain supplied by that artery to die and the part of the body loses function and gets paralysed. Sometimes it is so severe that the patient loses power in one arm and leg and if left side of his brain is involved then power of speech is also lost. In this scan there are small infarcts or non functioning brain tissue on both sides. Cerebral atrophy means that there may be some clinical evidence of dementia. This person needs further investigation to determine the underlying cause of stroke so that treatment may be initiated to stop further strokes which could lead to further brain damage and becoming bedridden for life
