Asking for Father, Male, 56 years old, Lahore
My father has had lower back pain for over 8 years now. He has had several short term physical therapies but to no avail. Recent MRI scan shows he has mild diffuse disc bulge in l3/4, l4/5 and asymmetrical disc bulge in l5/s1 along with tiny tears in right lateral recess. The orthopaedic specialist has straight up recommended surgery however I wanted to ask whether it would be better to try physical therapy and
salam. i have written this before and will tel you as well. internationally accepted key for treatment of disc slip odd as below
1. when pain starts bed rest of upto two weeks then activity modification and start physio
2. worsening pain or other symptoms get mri
3. mild disc bulge Will respond to injection in spine in 90% people
4. 10 % will need operation if injection fails or symptoms get worse
Please remember disc operations are for leg pain. they are not going to cure the back pain. so be careful before going for operation
