Hello, The injection BORTETAG is the brand name of bortezomib, which is an anti-cancer (chemotherapy/targeted anti-myeloma) medicine. It is commonly used to treat multiple myeloma, a cancer of the plasma cells in the bone marrow. Bortezomib works by blocking the cancer cells’ ability to break down proteins, causing them to die while slowing the growth of the disease. Like all cancer medicines, it can cause side effects. The most common ones include: * Tiredness or weakness * Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, or constipation * Loss of appetite * Tingling, numbness, or burning sensation in the hands and feet (peripheral neuropathy) * Low blood counts, which can increase the risk of infections, anemia, or bleeding/bruising * Mild fever or injection-site discomfort Most side effects are manageable, and your mother’s oncology team will monitor her closely during treatment.
