Looks like age related arthritis. For permanent relief patient needs Knee replacement when he reaches to the stage that patient pain is not getting better with pain killers, physiotherapy and other modalities like PRP injection, steroid injection in the joint and weight reduction.
It is better if your father can be seen by Orthopedic Surgeon near you for proper assessment. Meanwhile if one pain killer is not helpful he can try another one.
Try following
Ibuprofen 400 mg
one tablet twice daily after food
Omeprazole 20mg
one tablet at night for stomach pain
