Talk to Orthopedic Surgeon on Coccyx/tail Bone Pain

person-avatar

Asking For Self, Female 28, Karachi

About 2 months ago, our auto was hit from behind by a speeding auto. At the time, it seemed like nothing serious had happened, but I felt an immediate jolt and body pain — every muscle, joint, and bone ached. I took a painkiller, and the pain subsided temporarily.

However, since then, I’ve been experiencing persistent and severe pain in my tailbone (coccyx), especially when sitting. It’s started to seriously affect my daily life. I commute to work and back to home in an auto every day — about an hour total — and my job involves both sitting at a computer and moving around to manage files.

Once I sit down, standing up becomes very painful unless I do it slowly and carefully. Quick or sudden movements are almost impossible. I did some research and found that a coccyx cushion might help relieve pressure and reduce the pain.

I came across the Molty Foam coccyx cushion and was wondering if it actually helps with tailbone pain caused by impact or trauma?

Thank you
Coccyx pain may be due to trauma or due to repeated or prolong strain on your tail bone.
You need to exclude Fracture of coccyx? or dislocation??. Management may not be different but it's better to exclude Fracture/ dislocation
Your job involve prolong sitting, you try to minimize prolong sitting if you can
Use Proper Ring cushion so that while sitting your tail bone is free in the cushion, it should not touch the seat

Ibuprofen 400mg
1+1 after meals

Omeprazole 20 mg
1 at night if you have heartburn or pain in Stomach

Coccyx pain may take many months to settle
Do XRay Coccyx AP and Lateral view

Ring cushion with a hole in the center is "Coccyx Cushion"
Patient buttocks rest onto the periphery of cushion, and coccyx or tail bone remains in the center "free" not touching the seat

Kindly first get your Xray coccyx done in Ap and lat view, avoid sitting for long, use donut/ring cushion on chairs or wherever you sit place that cushion first, for time being simply take painkillers like Artifen 100mg 1+1,Tablet Nuberol forte 1+1,Cap.Risek 40 Once a day before meals, and kindly consult with orthopaedic surgeon.
