Talk to Orthopedic Surgeon on Hip Pain Issue After Femur Surgery

person-avatar

Asking for Mother, Female, 59 years old, Islamabad

Salam My mother had femur fracture surgery last month. she got operated and she was allowed to walk after the first day of surgery. first three weeks were good but after three weeks she was feeling pain at the hip and thigh side and the pain near hip side was not letting her sleep.

yesterday she had an x ray(39th-day after surgery xray) and it was showing one of nail screw(top first) got broke or moved from his location and it crossed the hip socket.

she was prescribed with pain killers and multivitamin. but the pain on hip side is not going and not letting her sleep. doctor said the hip pain is not associated with surgery, the pain is because of sitting much as she can't sleep and from last three night she is passing nights on sofa and pain killers are not helping her in that pain. she has extreme swelling on her other leg(non-fracture leg).

please tell her surgery was successful or not i am worried? and how this one broke screw will operate another surgery? she is walking

She should STOP WALKING IMMEDIATELY. the whole nail is Failing very fast. it is cutting through hip joint now.
this is not a good situation. she should get a second operation ASAP to save the hip joint and redo this whole fixation.

Definitely, she needs the nail and screws removed and have the fracture fixation revised as soon as possible. It is urgent and necessary!
