Asking For Self, Female 34, Pakistan
AoA I attended the rehabcure a few years ago for physiotherapy, and they took the internal level documentation of the sessions and exercises. However, the clinic never provided me with any official papers, treatment plans, or diagnoses from the physiotherapist.
I am trying to understand why this happened. Is it common for physiotherapy clinics to not give formal documentation to patients?
Has anyone else experienced this at Rehabcure or similar physiotherapy centers? How did you handle it, and were you able to get any official acknowledgment of your treatment?
Thank you for your guidance.
it's your official right to ask them your treatment plan and documentations
Physiotherapist always gives treatment plan in the form of documentation...you should claim that clinic why they aren't giving you the prescription...

the place i visit right now, they also don't offer any document, however verbally they told me

it does not happen so.
there is nothing secret in these documents
u can request them to hand over to u
if not
they may provide photostat copies of documents.
it's in Government hospitals that they have made a file of all documents if a patient for future references even though they give photocopies to the patient

This is called history taking and Plan of care. Such documentation is for department record and plan of care is necessary to monitor Physiotherapy protocols. Hospital only gives you the prescription in which summary of plan of care and protocol is mentioned. Hope you get your answer

Prescription with all treatment plan is mandatory and right of the patient.

u must have ur record with u
u may provide copies to patient so that she or he may b able to know what was disturbing him or her
and if
recurred the event.may manage something at home
If they haven't gave you the prescription with all treatment plan mentioned then its not an ethical practice. It doesn't happen usually.

once, I was told physiotherapist can not write prescription bcoz DPT Dr is not treated like Mbbs Dr... koi issue hota Dr word title mai laganay say etc etc

some set-up and physiotherapy centers don't provide documents also many hospitals keep this record confidential but if a patient needs to check his documents and procedures then S/he can ask politely for the documents. For sure Dr will provide you a copy of that document.

here I wanna clear one more thing. agr physiotherapist Dr hai (means dpt degree holder hai) s/he will not hesitate or avoid to provide you documentation papers. But if, s/he is pretending to be a dpt but s/he is not in actual then they will definitely give you lame excuses like dpts are not Dr and they don't prescribe. who said dpt can't prescribe medicines and can't provide documentation on papers? there are some boundaries and limitations but a dpt is Dr by profession and can give certain limited medicines too.

Wa Alaikmussalam. Ms. I am also practicing in Lahore and the situation you mentioned is not ethical and it is not the norm of good physiotherapist. It is the right of patient to keep the record of what treatment he/she is being given. You can ask them to give you. There is no such law that physio cannot give a prescription. Physiotherapist can give a prescription (with mentioned exercies). We do follow this at our setup. Even we give a Systematic Printed prescription to our patients and Where I have been practicing, I do the same and have not come across such case where prescription is not provided. Whatever the case may be, it is your right to get record of what treatment you are being given.
Your experience seems concerning. Typically, physiotherapy clinics provide patients with documentation, including treatment plans and progress notes, for continuity of care and record-keeping.
Progress notes typically track patient progress, including treatment plans, exercises, patient response, and goals. You might expect regular written updates, clear communication about progress, and specific details about your treatment. If this isn't happening, ask your physiotherapist directly about documentation procedures, progress tracking, and communication expectations to clarify and improve your experience.

and this written as well as verbal practice is common regardless of setup, which is big or small?

Yes, providing both written and verbal updates is a common practice in physiotherapy clinics, regardless of size. This ensures clear communication, continuity of care, and patient understanding of their treatment progress.

It's common for physiotherapy centers to not provide any documents as, physiotherapy practices is not regulated by any council but upon asking for the document treatment plan or history you will get it

As far as i know, physiotherapy is regulated under Pakistan physiotherapy council ? (told by person in higher management of Pakistan Physiotherapy Council), please correct if this is another false statement

Ppra is a private registration organization they do not regulated anything. I don't have a PPRA and I can still practice in Karachi while a MBBS doctor who do not have PMDC license number may find it difficult to start their practice as in their recruitment procedure involve PMDC numbers and active licensure which expires every five year. We are still in developing stage and working on making our regulatory body putting cases for that cause and suddenly they shifted us to Allied health council which means now they will make regulatory frame works and registration protocol similar to how a nurse register themself so it will take some time soon it will get into proper regulation. Currently if you want you can trust a professionals words or maybe trust these websites (reason for the existence of these organization is different than what I am talking about)
