it is a common and safe practice to add antipsychotics to SSRI treatment of OCD if symptoms aren't improving with just SSRI. it is a fairly safe combination if taken within the prescribed dosage range and proper follow up maintained with Psychiatrist. However if you feel any adverse effects after starting therapy immediately consult your Psychiatrist

there are multiple strategies to augment the treatment with other drugs but that cannot and should not be done by yourself. a certified Psychiatrist should do it after detailed assessment and previous response to treatment and taking into consideration the drug interactions

hi
have you explored avenues of psychotherapy and psychodynamic therapy along with SSRI.what SSRI you are using what dose you are on.It is a licensed practice but not a common practice as risks of antipsychotics need balancing benefits.WT gain onset of diabetes and lipid abnormalities excessive salivation can be potential side effects though Quetiapine is preferred on resperidone .
But I am not psych doctor I can only reflect cohort of my patients .As this is common mental health diagnosis in west..

hi
venlafaxine(Effexor) is SNRI group and 375 mg is max daily dose. I suppose there is no harm in trying if it helps.do you have any element of psychosis delusions , hallucinations etc .How about ECT have you discussed other options.

The antipsychotics is added to SSRI for augmentation. This is standard practice when patients with OCD do not respond to just SSRI. Usually only a small dose is added. All medicines have side effects but no...it doesn't change the way you feel.
