The best strategy is to consult psychiatrist first to assesss the basic cause of illnesss or complaints. Psychiatrist will decide to treat such patients by medications only or medications with psychotherapy or psychotherapy only. The psychiatrist knows better to refer such patient to clinical psychologist for psychotherapy or tackle by himself if trained for it.
As per guidelines,it is always advisable to contact your primary care physician which will be GP in your case.Most of the systems or problems are being treated in Primary care and then the next step would be to consult someone who is experienced in treating anxiety and related spectrum disorders.All the very best.
