Talk to Psychiatry on BPD Diagnosis

person-avatar

Asking for Self, Female, 28 years old, Karachi

It's been 3–4 months since I first noticed I have BPD symptoms, and I don’t want it to remain undiagnosed. I really struggle with regulating my emotions since they’re always intense. I get fixated on things, and I have volatile mood swings—five minutes ago, I'm crying, and the next minute I'm laughing. I also struggle with self-harm in situations where I feel helpless. I don’t self-harm every time, but when I don’t, I still get the urge. I mostly just shake it off. I get manic episodes where I become super feisty and say all sorts of bad stuff, but when the moment passes, I feel so guilty for doing that. I struggle with panic attacks as well, but whenever I’m having one, I try to ground myself as much as I can. Anyway, please let me know if you handle the diagnosis part, because I'm looking for one

Thanks for your question. In BPD, there are are three areas that are problematic:
1) Emotional Regulation
2) Distress Tolerance
3) Interpersonal Relations.

All the diseased behavioral patterns like self harm, aggression etc originate from these three dysfunctional areas. It is the clinical decision of the psychiatrist concerned to start treatment or just focus on therapy (DBT) to adress these issues.. You can book appointment and discuss these issues in detail. Thanks

Thank you for sharing your experiences. All of these are valid and do reflect emotional dysregulation that can be seen in conditions like BPD. However a detailed assessment is essential. Consult a psychiatrist

Book a consultation and assessment will help reach a diagnosis with detailed history, there would be need of psychotropic medications if required to stabilise the condition then we can move to psychotherapy as well. you have good insight that will surely help you recover quickly by providing you info-care as well.
