I am sorry for the loss of your father. It sounds like his illness has continued to weigh heavily on you, and the repetitive thoughts and repeated touching and religious rituals are causing significant distress. What you are describing can happen in obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), where unwanted thoughts (obsessions) lead a person to repeat certain actions or rituals (compulsions) to relieve anxiety. OCD is a recognized medical condition, and effective treatments are available.I recommend scheduling an appointment with a psychiatrist for a full assessment. Treatment often includes cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT)especially exposure and response prevention (ERP)and, for many people, medication such as an SSRI. These treatments can significantly reduce symptoms.
Until you are seen, try not to judge yourself for having these thoughts. If you notice yourself repeating a ritual, simply recognizing that it is part of OCD can be a helpful first step, even if you\'re not yet able to resist it.If you ever begin having thoughts of harming yourself or feel unable to stay safe, seek emergency medical care immediately or tell a trusted family member so they can help you get urgent support. If the question is specifically asking whether the person should be seen in person, the answer is preferably YES given the duration and impact of the symptoms, an in-person evaluation by a psychiatrist is appropriate. Help is available. You are never alone
