An old saying about schizophrenia is that one third cured one thirds stable on medication and one third not control even on medication. However wwith moderen medication prognosis is very good. Afew lucky patients cured with one year treatment but most of the patients remain stable on medication, only few are not control even on medication. However one should remember that it is a chronic relapsing and remitted disease
he needs psychotherapy sessions along with medication and u should involve in rehab activity which will help his recovery
Recovery & Prognosis of Schizophrenia depend on multiple factors like compliance towards medicines, family support, employment, substance use and current stressors in family or job.
Generally speaking, almost 30% of patients of Schizophrenia recover fully with medications and in 1st episode, duration of taking medications is one year.

Welcome, i thing most of the discussion has been done and evidence bases, as per history that patient is completely normal on medication, current advise is that patient should be complaint on medications and regular follow ups, because being on medication gives control on symptoms and prevents from relapses and this is the time where patient get frustrated of medications and wants to quit it, so please do not reduce or stop the medication, it should be with doctor's advise. if patient is in remission for long time then symptoms can be controlled on lowest effective doses. Thank you
As far as the basis of Schizophrenia is concerned, mostly around 80% it comes from the genetics and rest of the factors are environmental. So the prognosis entirely depends on horizontal factors, either the patient is function well in activities of daily living? is he using any substance of addiction?
Symptoms can be cured not only with medications but with Family support in which reassurance and zero level of criticism should be entertained. Keeping the patient busy in some work which they prefer to do and regular visits to the Mental Health professional increases the chances of staying well and symptom free.
