Hi Doctor, I am taking treatment for anxiety and depression. Since my anxiety was not improving, my doctor today prescribed me these three medicines together: Sertraline 100mg (Morning and Evening) Fluoxetine 20mg (Morning and Evening) Venlafaxine 75mg (Morning and Evening) I read online that combining these three specific medicines together can cause a highly dangerous condition called Serotonin Syndrome or a severe medical emergency. Is it safe to take all three of these heavy medicines at the same time? Please advise me. Thank you.

The combination of sertraline, fluoxetine, and venlafaxine at the doses you mentioned is not a routine treatment approach, as all three increase serotonin levels and, when used together, may increase the risk of adverse effects, including serotonin syndrome.While there are rare situations where antidepressants are briefly overlapped during a supervised medication switch, taking all three together long term requires careful specialist monitoring.Do not stop or change these medications on your own.I recommend contacting your treating psychiatrist as soon as possible to confirm whether this prescription was intended as a cross taper or if there has been an error. If you develop symptoms such as agitation, confusion, fever, sweating, tremors, muscle stiffness, diarrhea, or a rapid heartbeat, seek emergency medical attention immediately.
