Asking For Self, Male 31, Lahore
Hi everyone, I’m new to the group. I smoked for about 5 years because of severe anxiety and OCD. After going to rehab, my anxiety calmed down, and I was able to quit smoking, especially since I had started having respiratory issues. During that time, my self-esteem skyrocketed and I felt so much better.
But after 2 years, life struggles and stressors caused my OCD to relapse. Unfortunately, I turned to vaping as a way for my mind to get some nicotine again to cope. I vaped for about a year, but recently I started feeling irritation on the left side of my chest—similar to what I felt back when I had respiratory problems from smoking.
I’m going through a lot in my life right now, but I’ve decided to quit vaping. I threw away my vape and I’m going cold turkey. I’m scared of the withdrawals but also hopeful. I believe I can do this. Please wish me luck, and if you have any techniques or tips to help me cope with the withdrawals and get through this challenge, I’d really appreciate that i
The chest irritation you are feeling is your body asking for healing and by quitting you are listening to it. YOU HAVE DONE IT BEFORE—- YOU CAN DON IT AGAIN. You may experience irritability, cravings, restlessness or low mood. These are normal nicotine withdrawal effects and usually peak in first week. Be aware of that. Since you are struggling with OCD and anxiety , techniques like 5-4-3-2-1 grounding technique and progressive muscle relaxation can help your nervous system when cravings hit. STAY PHYSICALLY ACTIVE. Have a daily walk or light exercise. Stay connected.
