I am 40 & suffering from OCD for past several years, I was prescribed Tab Zoloft by Professor Syed Haroon Sb ( Karachi ). He told me that if I don't get this I may take Reline ( Surge Pharma ) or Sert ( Barrett & Hodgson ) as these are all same. But when ever I switched from one brand to another , my symptoms respond differently and there is quite noticeable variations in the behavioural pattern. I got confused so I consulted one more physician Prof.Asad Tamizzuddin Sb ( Rawalpindi ) who told me that Zoloft is like Mercedes and Reline is like Mehran. I shall be extremely thankful if some one guides as why I beahve differenly with each of these three when all are same. Thanks alot

I agree with prof. Asad sb. When you shift from zoloft to other brand you have to increase dose. Otherwise no problem. Its like pure milk and a bit, water mixed milk
Aoa i can understand your suffering .As you have consulted with reknown paychiatrist ,I am sure they would have counselled ayou about the course of this illness.May Allah make it easier for you..Zoloft is the brand..wonderful medicine.If you can afford you continue with zoloft..reaching to maximum tolerable doses..kindly have frequent consultation with your psychiatrist..If available go through CBT as well to get maximum possible remission..

Whenever a new medicine is introduced in medical practice there is a brand leader. In Sertraline salt, Zoloft is brand leader and all other medicines are allowed after ten years to compete the brand leader. So, the example which Asad gave is very appropriate. However, sometimes a person might develop more side effects with the original brand or feel better with the local brand. But these two situations are rare. I always advise my patients to continue the brand they are comfortable with and their economy is not disturbed. However, if there is issue of efficacy with a cheaper brand then we suggest the original brand. Why this difference? It has many reasons from place where the raw material is purchased, shelf life, different pharmacokinetics e.t.c.
It is due to “placebo effect†of treatment or change of treatment, where patient seems to feel better relax and peace once change medicine, company or consultation while re-start the real result of previous medicines after a specific period. National and international company have no significant difference in results (effect) on health. Both are under supervision of one regulatory authority in country.
Hello , Salam hope you are doing good .. well i read all your query in detail .. to clear your point its not you who behave different with medicines.. definitely every medicine has its own power .. whatever medicine suits a person is best of best for her or him .. because the body accepts the nature of medicine you are taking and give results according to it .. different names with same formula also give different results... so nothing to worry about.. the medicine which suits your body just go with it .
