Asking For Other, Male 80, Samundri Road Faisalabad
My 80-year-old uncle slipped from a low height .around 20 days ago and hit his right hip.
X-ray of hip joint showed no fracture.
Initially pain was severe; now:
No pain at rest or during sleep Pain occurs with movement, sitting, or weight-bearing Can sit and stand with support, but cannot put full weight on right leg Earlier he showed improvement and even walked a little with support, but after forceful physiotherapy exercises, pain increased again No swelling, no numbness Appetite and strength are reduced due to limited mobility
Medicines taken earlier: Dicloran, Neuromet (stopped due to rash), vitamins
Currently: Bonion (Vitamin D), Evion Physiotherapist says it is muscle-related and pain is part of treatment, but recovery is very slow.
I want orthopedic guidance on:
Safe pain management for elderly Whether physiotherapy intensity is appropriate When and how weight-bearing should be started
Thank you
In this age group sometimes you miss the fracture on plain XRAY. It will be appropriate that patient should be seen by Orthopedic Surgeon, may need to repeat the Xray of pelvis and hip to rule out any fracture in the hip and around the hip.
Regards
Reg
It might be an impacted fracture neck of femur as it is commonly missed on initial plain xray.
Repeat xray or go for CT scan.
Best to see an orthopedic surgeon nearby.
Go for CT Scan Pelvis(without Contrast) first from a Good Radiologist. Choose any famous lab near you
if you will treat the root cause then recovery speed will be fine.
If you will do experiments then patient condition will become worse and vitamin D will also do calcification in arteries and other medicines will impact on metabolism and vital organs like kidney liver.
