Training & Recovery Check
Updated 10 September 2026You are training four or five days a week, eating carefully, and the results are not coming. Or they came for a while and then stopped. Or you are simply flat: sore for days after a normal session, no drive, sleeping badly, strength going backwards. Before changing the programme again or adding another supplement, it is worth knowing what your body is actually doing. The Training & Recovery Check measures five things that decide how well you build and recover, from one blood sample taken at your home in Lahore, read by a doctor rather than by a forum.
The five cover three separate questions. Hormone output and recovery capacity: total testosterone, which sets how much you can build, and vitamin D, which is low in most Pakistani adults and affects muscle strength as well as bone. Muscle stress: creatine kinase, the enzyme that leaks out of muscle when it is damaged, which separates normal training soreness from genuine overreaching. And whether the training is doing what it should for your metabolic health: a lipid profile for cholesterol and HbA1c for your average blood sugar over three months, both of which should be improving if the work is paying off.
Your report is usually ready the same day. A PMC verified General Physician then reads all five with you, online or at a clinic, whichever suits you. Low testosterone in a young man is a medical finding, not a supplement problem, and it needs looking into rather than treating from a shelf. Raised creatine kinase, poor lipids or a creeping HbA1c each change what you should do next. If everything is normal, the honest answer is that the programme and the sleep are the place to look, not your bloods.

What's included
Five tests from one blood sample, plus the doctor who reads them together.
- Testosterone (Total): the hormone that sets how much muscle you can build and a large part of your energy and drive. It has to be sampled in the morning, when it peaks. A low result in a young man is a medical finding worth investigating, not something to treat from a supplement shelf.
- 25-OH Vitamin D3: deficiency is very common in Pakistan and affects muscle strength and recovery as well as bone, so it is one of the more likely explanations for training that has stalled.
- CPK (Creatine Kinase): the enzyme muscle releases when it is damaged. It rises after any hard session, which is exactly why it is useful: read against your training, it separates normal soreness from overreaching that needs a deload.
- Lipid Profile: cholesterol and triglycerides. Training should be improving these, and if it is not, that is worth knowing. Some supplements and anabolic steroids push them sharply the wrong way.
- HbA1c: your average blood sugar over the last two to three months, which is the honest measure of whether the diet is doing what you think it is.
- General Physician consultation, included: a Marham doctor reads all five together and tells you which number is actually limiting you and what to do about it. Take it online or at a clinic, whichever suits you. It is part of the package, not an add on.
This panel is built around male reference ranges, because of the testosterone test. If you are a woman who trains and wants a similar check, ask the doctor; the useful panel is a different one.
If something needs following up, your doctor orders only what is needed, charged separately: free testosterone, LH and FSH if the total is low, liver and kidney function, or a ferritin if recovery is the main complaint.
Before your test
- Fasting needed: nothing to eat for 10 to 12 hours before the sample, for the lipid profile. Plain water is fine.
- The sample must be taken between 7 and 10 in the morning. Testosterone is highest early and falls through the day, so an afternoon sample can read low when it is not. Book a morning slot; this is the single most important thing on this list.
- Do not train hard for at least 48 to 72 hours before the sample. Creatine kinase rises after any heavy session and can stay up for several days, which makes a normal result look like muscle damage. Light walking is fine.
- Tell the doctor about every supplement you take, including creatine, protein, pre workout, testosterone boosters and fat burners. Several of them move these numbers.
- If you are using, or have used, anabolic steroids or testosterone from any source, tell the doctor. They change every result in this panel, a normal looking testosterone reading can be the injected hormone rather than your own, and stopping suddenly carries its own risks. The consultation is confidential and the point of it is to give you accurate advice.
- Mention any recent injury, a fall, or an intramuscular injection in the last week, since all of them raise creatine kinase on their own.
- Avoid alcohol for 24 hours before the sample, since it affects the lipid profile.
- Not for under 18s.
- Have your training pattern ready for the consultation: how many sessions a week, how long you have trained, and what changed recently. The results only mean something against that.
- One out of range value is a starting point, not a verdict. Your doctor reads all five together with what you are actually doing before advising anything.
