Talk to General Physician on Chronic Dry Coughing

Hi dear all, my mother has been having chronic coughs for a year maybe. She gets well but then again coughing starts if she eats or drinks anything which reacts. It is a dry cough. She has been taking some prescribed medicines and doctor has not suggested any test or I think it is not properly diagnosed. Can you please guide who to visit for consultation and what tests are necessary for a proper diagnosis. Plz guide. Thank you

There can be many reasons for cough.One needs a detailed history and proper exam with investigations especially if the cough has lasted for an year.
If she is overweight and the cough is related to food or drinks,then she may be a candidate of reflux oesophagitis with regurgitation of acid causing irritation in throat and respiratory passages.
If there is no obesity, or weight loss the causes are different.
