Asking for Other, Male, 66 years old, Karachi
My father in law is diabetic since 10 years approx (taking insulin) and he is also heart patient. Now a days he is having severe pain in his both wrists which is becoming unbearable. He go to a physician for this problem he changes his insulin and give folic acid. His pain is still there. I think being a medical student that this is might be due to carpel tunnel syndrome so Dr I just want to ask that whether we can use wrist splint for temporary pain relief as he is so irritated and doesn't want to go to Dr again. If yes so plz give some details jazak Allah

prof dr ghulam ali mundra walla MD
CTS might not the diagnosis if his both wrists are painful. Is there any other associated joint pain in his body. Please check his vitamin D level and add 1000 IU daily to his medication till the result comes , if very low vitamin D level found we might need to increase the daily dose .Also get his ESR and CRP done to assess any inflammatory process in joint is going on. Try giving him paracetamol 1 gm 3 times a day for 1 week along with Meloxican tablet 15 mg once daily for 10 days. Local voltaren gel should be applied 2-3 times daily. Splint is not needed at this stage. If after the treatment he still doesn’t improve share his results with me so I can advise you for further opinion by appropriate specialty physician.
