Every cough does not p]prequire a test.A clinician would guide you whether to get tests done or not.Tests are needed if a cough is prolonged beyond 2 to 3 weeks,has accompanying systemic and constitutional symptoms which are worsening like persostant fever,loss of weight.
There will be blood tests or Xrays if and when needed.Even HRCT scans on certain occasions.

Only a doctor can decide if you need a test.These tests are advised and done only when a doctor has the full history of a patient and has examined the patient.It is on the doctor s discretion if these tests are needed.
