Talk to General Physician on HIV Grey Border Line

Asking For Self, Male 27, Mansehra

Hello Doctors, I hope you are doing well.

I recently underwent a pre-employment medical test for GCC visa purposes. My HIV test result was reported as "borderline" or in the "grey zone", and the medical center has advised me to repeat the test after 8–10 days.

Here are some important details:

My previous HIV report (6 months ago) was clearly Negative (Non-Reactive).

I have no history of risky behavior (no drug use, no transfusions, no extra-marital or unsafe relations).

I am married, and my relationship is within a clean, halal lifestyle.

I have no symptoms and feel physically healthy.

The center mentioned that I’m “under observation” and said it might be due to stress or temporary immunity issue.

My questions:

1. Can borderline HIV test results become clearly negative within 8–10 days if there’s no real infection?

2. What steps can I take to improve my immune system or reduce chances of another borderline result?

3. Is this a common occurrence in lab testing, especially

Please get re-tested from Agha khan or shaukat khanum with 4th generation test by ELISA. Allah forbid if its in grey area with these labs they do FREE PCR or western blot test which is 100% confirmatory. Anyways low value results are mostly FALSE positive, it means there is NO infection and sometimes they get clear on its own NO medicine or anything required however for documentation purpose PCR and Western blot tests are 100% confirmatory.

Dear Respected Doctor,

The center advised me to repeat the test on 24th July. However, due to the anxiety and fear associated with the name "HIV," I went ahead and got an HIV Antibody (ELISA) test done from IDC.

Today, I received the report. The result value is 0.22, which is well within the normal range (cut-off value: 1.0). I believe this indicates that I am safely away from the risk.

Thank you for your understanding and support.

Warm regards,

Don't worry, a result may come positive due to cross reaction of other viral infection like EB virus.
Sample mishandling & poor lab techniques may at time result in ambiguous result. Get it rechecked from a reputable lab.
