Her left kidney stone is 0.8 cm in size, in the lower pole of the kidney and does not seem to be obstructive stone. Such stones usually do not cause pain, unless there is infection or obstruction. I would suggest that she
1. Consults a urologist. After a clinical examination, appropriate pain medication may be prescribed which may be safe for her.
2. Get baseline evaluation to see why she formed a stone in her kidney (serum calcium, albumin, uric acid and parathyroid hormone level).
3. Drink plenty of water to ensure passage of 2-3 liter of urine per day.
4. Avoid Cola drinks, vitamin D and vitamin C supplements (vitamin C in natural form, such as, fresh orange juice is good).
