Talk to Neuro Physician on Ischemic Brain Damage Post Cardiac Arrest

person-avatar

Asking for Other, Male, 51 years old, Dubai

My uncle had cardiac arrest at home and was immediately taken to emergency department of nearest hospital. On arrival to the Emergency Department, he was in cardiac arrest. The initial rhythm was asystole. Advanced Cardiac Life Support was started immediately. During resuscitation, the rhythm changed to ventricular fibrillation, requiring multiple DC shocks. He also received epinephrine, amiodarone, and magnesium as per ALS protocol. He subsequently developed ventricular tachycardia and later PEA. Return of spontaneous circulation was achieved. Post-ROSC ECG showed STEM, and he was taken for urgent coronary angiography and primary PCI.

Now his heart and vitals are stable and he is currently in vegetative state with ventilator support. Upon recent EEG and MRI doctors are saying that he has advanced ischemic brain damage which is the reason he is not coming to consious. At the moment physically he is just opening the eyes and nothing else.

Is there any possible course of treatment that can improve his brain condition and overall condition or it is going to be same

This is not an encouraging picture. His GCS would be 4 if there is just eye opening. What sort of wave pattern was seen in his EEG ? Is it possible to post his EEG here?
