Asking For Father, Male 52, karachi
Hello,
My father had a macroadenoma. Three days ago, he underwent surgery at NMC, performed by Dr. Junaid Ashraf, who is a great doctor.
Back in 2022, my father was diagnosed with a microadenoma, which was successfully removed by Dr. Junaid Ashraf. However, it has now grown larger, compressing his optic nerves and extending further into surrounding areas. The doctor was able to remove half of the tumor, but half remains in his brain.
The doctor is advising open skull surgery, but my family is not in favor of this option. We would prefer an alternative treatment, such as gamma knife radiation.
Could you please advise us on the best course of action for my father? I have attached his MRI from before the surgery and his CT scan from after the surgery. We are also awaiting the biopsy results, which will be available in 10 days.
Thank you.
I appreciate your care for your father. Unfortunately, I don't treat Brain tumor actively as a Medical Oncologist. You need to contact Radiation Oncologist for further discussion.
I can see couple of colleagues on borad in this platform who does cover Radiation oncology.
Please seek the help of a Neurooncologist or a Radiation oncologist.

thanks for your reply
can you tell me that radiation can remove the remaining tumour which is in suprasellar region and optic chiasm? or only open surgery is needed?

I have heard good things about Dr Ali Akbar. His bedside manner isn't very good but from what I have heard he has good skills. He is a neurosurgeon.
