Talk to Orthopedic Surgeon on Severe Pain After Arm Surgery – Need Medical Advice

Hello Doctor,

My uncle is a 55-year-old male. He had a road accident and sustained a fracture in his arm. Surgery was performed about 40–50 days ago.

Around 15–20 days after the surgery, while the arm was still in a bandage, he started feeling pain, irritation, and a bad smell from the operated area. We consulted the surgeon, who opened the bandage and examined the wound. We then sought a second opinion from another doctor, who prescribed 10 injections. He has received 4 injections so far.

Despite this, he is now experiencing severe, unbearable pain in the operated arm. The pain comes in episodes and is so intense that he is unable to do anything during those attacks. We are very worried because we do not understand what is causing this pain.

Could you please advise what the possible reasons could be and whether he needs urgent evaluation or any specific tests? Thank you.
