walykum asalam, it's called groin pain syndrome, it's a common condition that happens during sudden alternative movements of hip.
you can manage pain by 10 minutes icing, also you can take "voren 25mg 2 times a day", it will be back to normal power by physiotherapy and strengthening the Adductors.

I have muscle spasm in my lower back for which I'm taking medicine, other than that no history of any injury. It just started out of the blue

It's possibly happening due to muscle imbalances in your back muscles. If the pain is not going away with medicines, you need to get a physical check up. You can visit a physiotherapist or an Orthopedic.
In the meantime, apply pain gels/creams 3,4 times a day. Ice the area for 12-15 minutes, 3 times a day, and avoid any pain aggravating activity.
