Asking For Other, Male 4, lahore
I am writing to express my concern about my 4-year-old son, Hasan. Over the past two years, he has been experiencing sudden fear, both while sleeping and awake. Initially, these episodes were infrequent, but now they are occurring more frequently. He suddenly becomes scared, stating that things are moving or upside down, mentions "ghosts" on my face, or claims to have received an electric shock. It is difficult to understand what is causing this fear, especially since he is quite intelligent and picks things up quickly. I would appreciate your insight and guidance on this. Thank you.
Probably suffering from a type of scizure causing these symptoms. It is a major scenario - need intensive assessment, diagnosis and treatment plan. Suggest you earlier physical consultation from an experienced child neurologist or psychiatrist for a detail history and investigations for diagnosis. Early consultation is recommended
I can understand the delimma that you are going through as a mother. I am so sorry to hear that your child is unwell. A mother tends to suffer at an equal level as her child. Firstly, there is no requirement to mention your son's name. Secondly, as you've mentioned that he is a 4 years old intelligent boy, it is important to note for how long is he has been to describe his fearful thoughts. Two years ago, he was 2 years old. Did he ever hint at that time of such disturbances? Children do tend to have nightmares when they face physical or emotional neglect over long periods of time or when there is parasitic infestation in their gut. At the age of four, both these scenerios need to be ruled out. Another very important aspect is to note what the child is watching on screen. Is he going through some disturbing content? Now-a-days, the cartoons too are full of violence. Is he eating well? Has there been alteration in his weight in past 1 month? Has he gone through any major change at home? Has he just joined pre-school? Once these reasons are ruled-out, we can then consider organic causes. It is important that he first visits his pediatrician. Most of his symptoms will be dealt with in pediatric opd. If assessment requires, he may be refered to child psychiatrist. Possibly a psychologist may be attached to you inorder to guide you how to go about your son's management. I would like to appreciate you for reaching out. I would also like to offer you my services. Alhamdolillah, I am a pediatrician, psychiatrist and psychotherapist and serving in all three domains. I wish your son a speedy recovery and a good health. Take care of yourself as well.
