Asking For Self, Male 23, Karachi
can I take alprazolam or other benzos for short time relief from social anxiety disorder to give speech in an event? Will it cause too much sedation and make me not able to perform?
or please suggest other medication option for short term relief from performance anxiety
kindly book an appointment.Medicines are not prescribed without a proper history.
Kindly get an appointment for a detailed check-up and management plan accordingly... but don't use alp or benzoduazepines kindly
It’s best not to take alprazolam or other benzodiazepines on your own for such situations they can cause sedation, slowed thinking, or dependence, especially if you’re not used to them.
For short-term performance anxiety, a beta-blocker(like propranolol), can be prescribed which helps reduce physical symptoms such as shaking or rapid heartbeat without causing drowsiness.
Please consult a psychiatrist before the event — he /she can recommend the safest short-term option and correct dose for you. Don’t self-medicate; help is out there .
show to psychiatrist for evaluation and treatment

better to consult a clinical psychologist for therapy to cope with this issue. Don't be dependent on medicine for temporary relief.
thank you
it's completely treatable after taking some medicine don't you worry detailed history required kindly book appointment with me
yes u may try. test the dose before the day of event as to how much doze will make u serene n alert only. I mean it should not make u drowsy
Medicines are temporarily relieving, but for the long term you need psychological sessions to cope up your problems, if feasible book your appointment
Alprazolam will make you drowsy and not that effective for performance anxiety, but if you have any other anxiety it might help but risk of falling asleep is there as well as getting dependant on the benzos, also if you don't face the fear it would be harmful for your mental health in long term, it's better to seek professional help.
Yes for only one off use before event but as u said it will cause sedation … have u evee taken any short acting benzo before ? Did u face this or other side effects? Best advice is to get over the social anxiety … but will take some time before u see the difference … i can help if u book online appointt as i m in UK
