Asking For Sister, Female 53, abbottabad

aoa, i am attaching reports of my sister who started complaining of severe burning sensation and pain in right leg that starts from upper thigh and goes down to her toes and its radiating pain. sort of fits of pain, not constant. consulted two doctors who advised different antibiotics and multiviatmins for specific purposes. she is a known diabetic for past 12 years but no medications. her hba1c came out to 9. we got urine r/e and culture done on our own and i want any doctor to comment on that. i have also scheduled an ultrasound.

No test report is required. You have already sent us the HbA1c and that is sufficient to show us poor diabetic control. The next test to do is MRI of lumbar spine. Don’t waste your time and money doing random tests for this that or the other. Now you should concentrate on diabetic control and consult your local physician for that. However MRI spine is required

Pain in the leg going down to the toes could be due to compression of certain nerve roots caused by intervertebral disc herniation that impinges on the nerve roots and causes pain. The usual distribution of pain is back of the leg going down to either the big toe or the little toe . This is known as sciatica. Your sister is also diabetic and the HbA1c shows poor diabetic control . This means a component of burning pain could be caused by diabetic neuropathy. She will need an MRI of her lumbar spine and strict dietary regime plus drugs to keep her blood sugar under control.
