Fever & Infection Check
Updated 9 September 2026Fever that will not settle is the commonest reason people in Pakistan reach for antibiotics before anyone has looked at a blood test. The Fever & Infection Check answers the question that actually matters first: is this a bacterial infection, a viral one, or something inflamed that has been building for weeks? Three blood tests from one sample taken at your home in Lahore, and a doctor who reads them with you. It is the right check if your fever has lasted more than three days, keeps returning in the evenings, or came with body aches, chills and weakness.
The three work as a set. The CBC counts your white cells, and their pattern is the first clue to bacterial against viral; it also shows your platelets, which matter in dengue season. CRP rises within hours of a bacterial infection starting, so it is the most useful marker early on, when a fever is only two or three days old. ESR moves more slowly and stays raised longer, so read next to CRP it separates something that started this week from something smouldering for a month. Together they tell your doctor how ill you actually are, not just how ill you feel.
Your report is usually ready the same day. A PMC verified General Physician then goes through it with you, online or at a clinic, whichever suits you, and answers the question you came with: do you need an antibiotic, or would one do nothing here. If the pattern points at typhoid, dengue or malaria, they order that specific test then, so you pay for the right one instead of guessing. If everything is normal, that is worth knowing too.
Tests included
Complete Blood Examination (CBC)
CRP (High Sensitivity)
ESR (Erythrocytes Sedimentation Rate)
What's included
Three tests from one blood sample, no fasting needed, plus the doctor who decides what they mean.
- Complete Blood Examination (CBC): counts your white cells and shows which type is raised, the first clue to a bacterial infection against a viral one. It also reports platelets, which fall in dengue, and haemoglobin, so a long fever with anaemia does not get missed.
- CRP (High Sensitivity): the fast marker. It climbs within hours of a bacterial infection taking hold and falls again quickly once it is treated, which makes it the most useful single number in a fever that is only a few days old.
- ESR (Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate): the slow marker. It rises later and stays up longer, so read beside CRP it tells your doctor whether this started this week or has been going on quietly for much longer.
- General Physician consultation, included: a Marham doctor reads all three together and tells you whether an antibiotic is warranted, what to watch for, and when to come back. Take it online or at a clinic, whichever suits you, and for a fever many people prefer to be seen in person. It is part of the package, not an add on.
If the pattern points somewhere specific, your doctor orders that test then, charged only if you need it: typhoid, dengue NS1, malarial parasite, a urine test, or a chest x ray.
Before your test
- Go to a hospital now, do not wait for a home blood test, if there is very high fever with confusion or drowsiness, difficulty breathing, a stiff neck, a rash that does not fade when pressed, bleeding from the nose or gums, severe vomiting or no urine for many hours, or if the patient is a baby. This check is for a fever you are managing at home, not for an emergency.
- No fasting needed. Eat and drink as normal, and keep drinking water; a dehydrated patient is harder to draw blood from.
- Best taken while the fever is still present or within a day of it settling. CRP falls quickly once an infection starts clearing, so a late sample can read reassuringly low.
- If you have already started an antibiotic, say so. White cells and CRP drop within a day or two of the first dose, and the report can then look normal even though the infection is real. Your doctor needs to know before reading it.
- Mention steroids, anti inflammatory painkillers and paracetamol taken in the last 24 hours, along with any recent vaccination, since all of them shift these numbers.
- Women: mention if you are pregnant or currently on your period. ESR runs higher in both.
- Not for children under 12.
- Have the patient's name and age ready, plus the date the fever started and the highest temperature you have recorded. Have a phone in a quiet place for an online consultation, or your preferred clinic if you would rather be seen in person.
- One out of range value confirms nothing on its own, and none of these three tests names the germ. Your doctor reads the full report with you and decides what comes next.
