Hi doctor,I have been suffering from chronic bowel problems for about 3 years, including persistent diarrhea (sometimes greasy/fatty stools), occasional constipation, weight loss, weakness, and possible malabsorption. I am currently undergoing evaluation and plan to have investigations for the underlying gastrointestinal cause.
My main concern now is severe muscle cramps and weakness. The cramps have gradually become much worse and now involve both legs (from thigh to feet), both arms, and even my hands. They are especially severe at night and when I wake up from sleep, making me restless and sometimes making it difficult to move comfortably. Massage, heat, and stretching provide only temporary relief, and the cramps return quickly. My muscles also ache while walking.
Could this be due to electrolyte or vitamin deficiencies caused by chronic diarrhea/malabsorption? Which blood tests would you recommend to identify the cause of these severe cramps and weakness, and does this require urgent medical attention? Please tell me if there is an urgent solution
