Since you’re breastfeeding and feeling very tired, I wouldn’t recommend starting magnesium supplements randomly. First it’s better to look for the cause of your fatigue. A CBC and ferritin can check for anemia or low iron stores and a thyroid profile is also useful. Depending on your diet and symptoms, vitamin D and B12 can also be checked. Breastfeeding, disturbed sleep and taking care of other children can also leave you very exhausted. Try to prioritize sleep and rest whenever possible, eat regular balanced meals with enough protein and iron-rich foods and stay well hydrated. Also aim for about 2.5–3 litres of total fluids per day and increase this if you’re thirsty, sweating or it’s very hot. A simple habit is to have a glass of water whenever you breastfeed. Once the cause is clear, we can decide whether you actually need any supplement.
