Talk to General Physician on Question About Birth Control

Asking For Self, Female 31, Lahore

I have been married for 4 years. Have a baby of 2.5 years. Haven't been sexually active for about 3 years. My question is that now we are trying to be more active but trying to aviod pregnancy. My husband refused to use condoms and doesn't let me use the monthly pills. Kindly advise the effectiveness of emergency contraceptive pills. Are they safe? How. Many times in a month I can use them without causing any harm? Can a pill be taken every week and still be effective?

Alternatively, are there any Progestin-Only pills available in Pakistan? The combination ones do not suit me. Thanx for help.

emergency pills are safe and about 99% effective but if you want to use it every night it has more complications than monthly pills another method is norplant but discuss this issue with your GYN physician as there I can't write a long lecture for you to discuss cons and pros of every method

Emergency contraceptive pills are safe and 99 percent effective if used correctly within 72 hours of intercourse .
But taking them frequently leads to menstrual irregularities. If you need to take it more often than 3 or 4 times, you better switch to Combined oral contraceptives .If COC does not suit you ,go for injectable progesterone (3 monthly cover) or Intrauterine contraceptive device.
Injection Megesterol is a good option .

There are lot of studies suggesting OCPs (long term) are risk factors for Cancers particularly breast.

Best is Coitus interruptus followed by Condoms & IUCD. OCPs should be least option please!
