What an ENT specialist will do is that he/she Will go through all the possibilities which can cause change in sense of taste including but not limited to :infections in the oropharynx like gum inflammation, and dental caries, Reflux, history of radiation, Sjogren’s syndrome, nerve damage, history of surgery, vitamin and mineral deficiencies like B12 and Zinc deficiency, Metabolic and endocrine disorders like renal disease, hypothyroidism, diabetes, GBS, Multiple sclerosis, environmental exposures like tobacco, chemicals and exposure to some metals like mercury, copper, zinc, chromium, arsenic, lead and some other conditions. COVID-19 can also cause that, The max I had read was eight months but they were always atypical cases.
