Asking for Self, Male, 21 years old, Hyderabad
I was diagnosed with anxiety disorder, so my psychiatrist told me to take an SSRI for 5 months and Brolite for 10 days. I quit the SSRI after 40 days. After quitting it, I now feel anger over very small things for a few seconds, difficulty concentrating on studies, and my mood gets off over small things — sometimes without any reason. I quit the SSRI as I was taking 10 mg initially, then took half a tablet for a week, then half a tablet every 2nd day, and then quit. So why is this happening?
it depends upon which SSRi you are taking and how to taper it and should be tapered according to your symptoms.

Thank you for reaching out and sharing what you’re going through. Stopping an SSRI suddenly or too early can lead to a rebound or relapse of anxiety symptoms. The original problem , in your case , “anxiety “, might still be present . SSRIs work by gradually restoring balance to brain chemicals. Stopping them abruptly or early may disrupts the adjustment. Also if you were taking a anxiolytic like brolite and then stopped it, with drawl effects can contribute to restlessness, irritability and mood changes. Go for lifestyle adjustments and a review by a psychiatrist.
Thank you for asking. This needs a detail assessment and further evaluation. Kindly book an online appointment for further assistance.
consult with a clinical psychologist for therapy to cope with anxiety and stress related problems in your life.
don't be dependent on medicines.
you can book an appointment with me for therapy or further details.
thank you
please consult psychiatrist for treatment
If you have anxiety disorder, why not keep taking the SSRi? It also has some anti-platelet effect and offers some benefit in terms of stroke prevention etc. stress from anxiety does lot more damage to body than potential side effects from ssri. Fluoxetine is weight neutral as well.. happy to discuss more at consultation
Did he manage your underlying reasons why you are going through anxiety? For anxiety disorders the best management is through psychological therapies. You don't need medications. you are having withdrawal symptoms now as your brain got dependent on SSRI. You should consult a psychologist first then if your psychologist suggests your symptoms are severe enough that with psychological sessions you need medications then go for a psychiatrist.
