Asking For Self, Male 26, Pakistan
I have been taking antidepressants for past 2 years but no improvement. Is ketamine safer and effective option as compared to ECT ?
If antidepressants haven’t worked for 2 years, ketamine (or esketamine nasal spray) can be a rapid-acting and effective option for treatment-resistant depression. Compared to ECT, ketamine is less invasive and has fewer cognitive side effects, but ECT is still more effective for severe or psychotic depression.
Always discuss with a psychiatrist to weigh risks, benefits, and suitability based on your condition.

only medication is not the treatment of depression or any other mental disorder. you need proper therapy sessions. You can book your appointment with a therapist here.

While I am not a psychiatrist and can’t prescribe medication, I have studied pharmacology as part of my studies, so I can share a general understanding. Ketamine has shown some promise for treatment-resistant depression. It is sometimes considered as an alternative to ECT, but both have their own risks and benefits, which really need to be discussed with a psychiatrist.
At the same time, psychotherapy plays a huge role too. For example, CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) can really help by identifying negative thinking patterns and building healthier coping strategies. A lot of research shows that combining therapy with medication can make treatment more effective overall.
If you are open to it, working together in therapy might be a helpful next step alongside your medical care.

Please consider psychotherapy. Only medicine is not enough to treat psychotherapy.
ECT is the last option
Take therapeutic sessions as well, This will surely help you work with your medication effectively.

for medicine please consult with psychiatrist.
You should take therapy sessions for depressive symptoms rather than relaying on medication as they don’t benefit in long term. You may book an appointment with me through Marham. Thank you.
None of them is safer if continued for long term.
