Asking for Self, Male, 28 years old, Islamabad
Assalam o Alaikum Doctor, I am a 28-year-old male,
In March 2023, I started taking a Vitamin B12 supplement (methylcobalamin 1200 mcg), one capsule every 2–3 days. I continued this until May 10, 2023.
Initially, I had no issues. However, after April 10, I began experiencing sleep problems. My sleep became irregular (2 nights without sleep followed by 3 nights of normal sleep). This condition continued from April 10 to May 10. At that time, I was not sure whether Vitamin B12 caused the insomnia.
From May 10 to May 15, I had severe insomnia and was unable to sleep properly for about 5 days. I stopped the supplement on May 10. After May 15, my sleep returned to normal and has remained stable since then.
After this insomnia episode (from May 15, 2023), I started experiencing:
* Anxiety * Low mood * General body weakness * A feeling that my brain is slightly overactive/sensitive * Stomach issues (frequent belching)
I still experience mild anxiety and low mood symptoms even now in 2026, and I feel that my overall health has not fully returned to how it was before this episode.
My questions are: (1) What could be the reason for persistent mild anxiety and low mood after such a long time? (2) Why does my overall health still not feel fully recovered?
Thank you.
May b u think too much lots of reasons

Dealing with persistent mild anxiety, low mood, and a feeling that your health hasn\'t fully recovered since 2023 must be incredibly draining. High-dose Vitamin B12 can occasionally trigger temporary overstimulation or sleep disruptions, but because these symptoms have lingered for years after stopping the supplement, they are likely being sustained by underlying physiological or psychological shifts rather than the B12 itself. Booking a dedicated session will allow us to thoroughly evaluate your full medical history, look into how that severe insomnia episode may have impacted your nervous system, and explore targeted strategies—potentially alongside routine lab work—to finally help you regain your baseline and feel fully recovered.

1. Is the insomnia mentioned above something to worry about? Can it have any long-term effects on mental health?
2. Most of my symptoms have improved a lot, but I still have mild anxiety and low mood. Do you think these symptoms will continue to improve and eventually go away, or is it less likely after such a long time?

Asalam o Alaikum this is Malaika Tariq clinical psychologist from Lahore...
you can consult with me for detailed assessment and therapy
Based on what you\'ve shared, it seems unlikely that Vitamin B12 itself would be causing anxiety or low mood after such a long period, especially since your sleep normalized after stopping it. Sometimes a severe insomnia episode can trigger ongoing anxiety, increased body sensitivity, and heightened focus on physical sensations, which may continue even after the original trigger is gone.
Since these symptoms have persisted for several years, I would recommend a proper psychological assessment rather than linking everything to the supplement alone. The good news is that long-standing anxiety patterns can often improve significantly with the right therapeutic approach. If you\'d like to explore the possible causes, recovery timeline, and a personalized treatment plan, you may consider booking a detailed consultation.

Treating worldwide successfully
It is really appreciated that you have insight of your problem and have noticed what has caused sleep problems.
Answering question 1 for you: yes, use of vitamin B12 tablets can cause insomnia but there can be other factors related to it.
Answering question 2: If it was only due to tablet use, it would\'ve been recovered. If you are still feeling low mood, anxiety symptoms. You should definitely take therapy sessions. You\'ll get clear idea of why ut has caused and how you can manage it.
You may book session with me. Thank you
