I have accidentally given approx 10 drops of vit d( cholecalciferol) 400IU to my 4 month old infant daughter. please tell me what should I do? how can I flush it out of my daughter's system? should I be worried about this? please reply urgently if possible.
AoA. just wait and see. if child does repeated vomiting then you need to see doctor.otherwise dont panic and stop giving drops for 1 week.
she will be fine iA
do u r child has any symptoms
don't be worry about too much..
The tolerable upper limit, or the maximum daily intake of vitamin D that is unlikely to result in any health risks, has been set at 4,000 IUs per day.Â
You have given 10drops it means 4000IU which is overdose that may cause nausea and vomiting, loss of appetite, excessive thirst, frequent urination, constipation, abdominal pain, muscle weakness, muscle and joint aches, but chances are low at 4000IU dose because vitamin D this overdose not at toxic level (above 240,000IU is toxic dose that causes very high calcium in blood and causes confusion and fatigue, as well as more serious consequences like kidney damage).so now for the safe side you need to investigate the level of calcium in blood and consult with endocrinologist.Jazak Allah khair
I mentioned 4000IU is overdose but not toxic dose that causes symptoms as i posted u in my previous msg
10 drps equal to four thousand IU i wanted to write, stop vitamin d for atleast 10 days also ok
Or if for u to go hospital in this covid pandemic difficult, just observe your baby for persistent vomiting and excessive crying even after feed then consult better with endocrinologist in hospital ok.inshaAllah she will be fine
