Aoa i want to know my daughter is 45 days old and totally on breastfeed. She has irritating cough and flu and get irritated while sleeping and feeding. I went to doctor and he suggested me Muflex Pro syrup (carbocisteine + promathazine hcl). But coming back home i read about this medication is contraindicated in children under the age of 6 due to potential for serious central nervous system and respiratory side effects caused by promethazine. Please tell me is this syrup is safe or not? Also what treatment is possible for wet cough and flu?

If baby is active, feeding properly, no signs of sickness, then give Syp hylixia 5 drops 3 times, but if baby becomes lethargic, decreased feeding, high grade fever, better to go to emergency, don’t use promethazine, for young babies keep your threshold for er low

Babies this age mostly have viral infections that get settled on their own in 10-14 days. Such cough and cold medications are strictly prohibited in children less than 6 years due to the dangers of sedation and respiratory depression primarily. Even in older children, these must be given under close observation.

If your baby is otherwise well and is feeding somewhat okay, you only need to clear nasal secretions before feeds and give panadol half dropper eight hourly if >102 F fever.

Aoa, 45 days old baby ko Muflex Pro (promethazine) dena bilkul safe nahi hai. Promethazine chhote bachon (especially under 2 years) mein serious side effects de sakta hai, is liye avoid karein.
Itne chhote baby mein cough aur flu mostly viral hota hai, jo kuch din mein theek ho jaata hai. Abhi aap baby ka naak saline drops se clear rakhein, room humid rakhein, aur breastfeeding jari rakhein. Agar baby ko breathing difficulty, feeding kam hona, ya bukhar ho to turant pediatrician ko dikhayen.
